For the next few Sundays, we’ll be discussing our relation to money and following Jesus. One of our community members, Rick Zemlin will be leading our conversation this week. Here’s a note from Rick on this Sunday’s meeting:
As a bit of a heads up to you what I was thinking of doing was having us each share our “money story”. I think it would be great to hear how we each have developed our attitudes around money and other resources in our life. What did we pick up from our parents? When we were growing up did we feel poor? Rich? What was that like? What events have transpired in our lives that have continued to shape our values around money and what we do with it? What were some key challenges, decision points or other key events that we have had and what did we learn at those junctures? What are our current values or what are we currently trying to do in our lives with regard to money and other resources? Basically, what I’m suggesting is that people tell their stories, revealing as much as they feel comfortable to reveal and no more. I hope to have a couple of scripture passages and/or other readings to supplement the discussion.
As usual, we’ll start with a scripture reading and a simple meal, at 6pm and end the night with communion. See you Sunday. For those who can’t make it, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. We can dialog about it here as well.
